This is your first and last time, right? If so, let us help you!
First - beware of lying! If you wandered how to make an excuse letter and you’ve done nothing wrong (yeah, right) just tell the truth. In unlikely situation that you went to see a movie or were making out instead of attending class, you might need to explain yourself. You can choose to be funny, or serious, or real
FUNNY EXCUSE LETTER
Dear Mrs. / Mr. Teacher,
I'm sorry my homework isn't ready, but it wasn't my fault!
This morning, a strange squerell crawled in through the window. It sneaked into the family room where my books and homework were. I grabbed my favorite squiky toy from the time when I was just a little kid and threw it selfeslly at the squerell but I missed and it grabbed my homework and ran into the kitchen. I yelled at it real loudly, but that didn't help, so I quickly put some really noisy Nirvana song on my stereo and turned the volume way up, hoping to scare it away. Instead, it started to hop around like it was brak-dancing! I could not believe my eyes! The dancing squerell hopped so wildly, it knocked a glass of orange juice off the coffee table and spilled it all over my homework. I guess the squerell really liked the taste of a freshly squeezed Florida oranges.
So, that's why homework isn't ready... that strange squerell gobbled it like it has never seen a homework soaked in the orange juice before! I think a similar thing happened to Alfons (inster a real name of a friend) recently, so it must be a common problem here at First Stupid School.
Sincerely,
Annabelle Lee
Your school officials might think going to Disneyland is not best of your education. You beg to differ and this is what your parents might want to write to the school.

RE: [students name and vacation dates]
Please be advised that [student] will be out of school during the week of [date]. We ask that his absences be excused.
The reason for [student]'s absence is that our family will be out of the state during this week. While we are gone, we will be visiting Walt Disney World. We believe that [student] will be learning many things during this trip and that his education will continue in his absence from school.
Some things [student] will learn about:
[student] will also be learning about map reading by navigating in and to the different theme parks, as well as the resorts and water parks via the Disney bus system, sociological aspects of crowds including patterns and behavior, physics of the different rides, breakthroughs in technology at the Innoventions computer lab in Epcot, art and animation and the history of film, and mathematics.
We believe this will be a wonderful and educational experience for [student] and hope you agree not to charge him with unexcused absences as a result. If it is possible for [student] to take any assignments with him to be turned in when we return or to turn in before we leave any work that will be due while he is gone, please let us know as soon as possible.
Thank you for your attention to this. If you have any questions or need any further information, please feel free to contact me.

SOME USEFUL REMARKS:
As seen in our “real” excuse example you need to tweak the story and find a real value in any reason for the absence. Going on the beach / summer to another part of world? Great excuse might be a marine biology study on the location! Or perhaps a different cultures experience. You name it.
If you need to excuse yourself for something embarassing the rule number one is NOT to further embarrass yourself by lying. Use keywords to convey emotions and meanings like:
“REGRET” – that one is a powerful verb coming from Old French and Frankish languages and it conveys the meaning of “to remember distress and longing” / “to weep”, “to groan”. Once you “regret” something you invoke old times of real pain,
“I AM SORRY” – It is self-explanatory pharase and should always go toghether with “regret”,
“MISTAKE” – if you’ve done something wrong by a mistake and not because of ill intent you should state that very clearly,
“IT WILL NOT HAPPEN AGAIN” – is a very active, positive statement that should be used if you believe in it! This phrase emphasises your emotions and is a nice touch, ending of an excuse letter.
So the core of your excuse letter should read something like this:
Dear So and So:
On a [day] I [what has happened]. I deeply regret my mistake and I am sorry that I have missed [class / homework / obligation]. Even more so I am sorry for having disapointed you. [Here put the reason for a mistake and be brief].
Please rest assured that [such a mistake / that / you can be more concrete if you wish] will not happen again,
Sincerely,
